The Sixtieth First (61st) Annual General Meeting (“AGM”) of Lafarge Malayan Cement Berhad was held at Sime Darby Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur on 25 May 2011. The meeting was chaired by Y.A.M. Tunku Tan Sri Imran ibni Tuanku Ja’afar, Chairman of Lafarge Malayan Cement Berhad.  He started the meeting by introducing the Board of Directors.
 
The AGM continued with the presentation on 2010 results, 2011 priorities and outlook by the President & Chief Executive Officer, Ms Bi Yong Chungunco. The Q&A session was well handed by the board members present. The shareholders of the Company approved all the Ordinary and Special Resolutions which were tabled thereat as set out in the Notice convening the AGM.

StarBiz-ICR Malaysia Corporate Responsibility Awards 2010

At the 3rd StarBiz ICR Malaysia Corporate Responsibility Awards 2010 held on 29 March 2011, Lafarge Malayan Cement was honoured with a plaque for being selected as one of the finalists in the segment above RM1 billion market capitalisation.  This Award recognises and honours companies that demonstrated its understanding of Corporate Responsibility practices in four categories: Marketplace, Workplace, Environment and Community and integrates responsible practices throughout its business operations.

2010 Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Green Excellence Awards - Technology Innovation Award for Sustainable Production of Cement

The Frost & Sullivan Green Excellence Award in Technology Innovation is presented to a company that has demonstrated superior technological advancement, which is aligned with a sustainable and environmentally conscious objective within its industry sector. This Award signifies the Company's identification of a unique and revolutionary solution with significant environmental benefits, while presenting tremendous market potential simultaneously.

The award was presented at the 2010 Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Green Excellence Awards held at Sime Darby Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur on 9 June 2010, to Lafarge Malayan Cement for its Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project which substitutes alternative biomass energy sources for fossil fuels in two of its cement plants in Malaysia. This project has been validated by the CDM Executive Board, in line with the framework established by the Kyoto Protocol.

Registered on 7 April 2006, the CDM project was approved by Malaysian and French authorities.  It is the first CDM project of its kind to be registered by the cement industry.
 
The Malaysian project involves the substitution of a percentage of coal with a biomass alternative, Palm Kernel Shells (PKS), in the cement manufacturing process.  PKS are a waste product of Malaysia's palm oil industry. By substituting PKS for coal, Lafarge is able to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 60,000 tons per year.

Green Label Certification

In 2010, Lafarge Malayan Cement is the first cement company in Malaysia to have two cement products awarded the Green Label certification by the Singapore Environment Council.  The two cement products are Mascrete LH and Phoenix which are manufactured using pulverized fuel ash (fly ash), a by-product of coal fired power stations.

Lafarge Malayan Cement was placed 11th for Best Corporate Governance Company in Malaysia by Finance Asia, a Hong Kong-based publication reporting on Asia's financial and capital markets on 5 May 2010.
